Sorry for the Spam

Few of you have complained that many of my older blog entries are full of obsene spam comments. I just wanted to apologize and state that I am working on getting rid of those.
From now on, comment on older blog entries will be readonly and eventually I will have managed to delete all of the spam (just takes time because I don't want to delete proper comments by accident). Then I should be able to keep up with deleting spam and not miss out on proper comments like I have been doing. If that doesn't work to keep those spam bastards in line I will try to think of something smart...

is it a possibility to only allow registered members who are logged-in to post a message so these spam bots cant. Not as flexibe but an idea.
Image checks
Yes, I have considered that but it feels to restrictive. I can never be bothered to leave comments where I have to log in. It might be my last resort. I think I will try to add one of those image checks first. Type in the characters you see in the image. That just requires me to do some work which I am too lazy to do right now:-(.

Geeklog has a spam filter plugin, which is not maintained last time I read. Or do you use Drupal as CMS for your blog? Or is it a suitable time to switch to WordPress? :) I've installed Spam Karma 2 for Aadil.mu and never has a spam yet (since I'm the only one readinh my blog). ;)

I use drupal but an old version and it is too much hassel to upgrade (since then I need to get a new layout for my blog or rewrite this one to work with the old system). I think they only have those spam things for later versions. I guess eventually I will be forced to do something but knowing myself I will try to put it off as long as possible:-).

Why not back up your Drupal entries database, start over with a new blog software and import your old entries? I can help, just give me shell access to your web server if you dare. :)

Yes, that is not a bad idea. Thanks for the pointer! I am just too lazy to start trying to implement this as it would require me to start learning php and trying to figure out this system I am running. In addition, I am suffering from one of my computer phobias right now where I am staying away from my computer as much as possible. Which explains why it takes me forever to answer to my comments:-).
