My crystal bowl, the coffee cup
I caught myself doing it again... This time I was wondering if I could practice some kind of voodoo to make the people at Kiss feel the pain I felt today when trying to use their player. What piece of shit!
I rarely actually wonder if I can get voodoo magic to work but lately I have been noticing how horribly superstitious I am. So I pride myself of not believing in God, but I still blindly believe in various other things that make even less sense. I have started tracking myself a little bit in the hope I will be able to drop this silliness. Few of the things that I do or feel superstitious about:
- I make a wish upon all eyelashes that fall off.
- I knock on wood and say 7, 9, 13 every time I state that something bad has never happened to me. This is supposed to prevent it from happening right after you say something like that.
- I feel bad if I open an umbrella inside.
- I don't start a new job on a Monday (I actually asked to start the job at Opera on a Tuesday instead of a Monday).
- I feel uneasy on Friday the 13th.
- I feel uneasy if a black cat runs in front of me.
- I get upset every time I dream about water (always been told it is bad and means death or sickness).
Then I own two sets of Tarot cards... and the other day I just _had_ to rotate one of my coffee cups three times over my head, blow into with a cross like movement, and put it upside down on my heater. Why? Well of course, to read the future from the pictures formed by the dried coffee...
The question is how dangerous are these? I have lectured myself that blind faith is dangerous but can I excuse these weirdnesses of mine as being harmless? I am hoping that by exposing my superstitious behavior that I will be ashamed enough of myself to I stop doing these things. So now flog me, make me embarrassed:-)!

Water and such =)
I agree... One of the main things with God(s) are the need we people have to belive in something, something to seek after... Something more to explain everything.
It can probably for many be a way of couping, and it is not far from dreams, hopes and fear (in my opinion).
About the water... My dream interpretation book (ofcource I have one, in the same shelf as my taroot book, book on alternative medicin and "cleans your soul". haha, now no one will ever take me seriouse again!... Ahhhh, I forgot to mention Daniel's "Star Trek, season one")
But, my point was to help you not to feel uneasy next time you dream of water (at least one less thing).
My book claims that water; "symbolizes usually the dreamers own feelings or ability to respond to other people"
Dreaming of the ocean though, can mean death (in meaning accepting it, or letting something go) when you dive in, but can also mean birth when you come up/out from the ocean.
A bit much? Nahhh, I can do better =)

Dreams
I have always wanted to have a dream interpretation book. Don't know why I have never bought one...
Yes, I have looked in few of them and they usually don't say much about death or sickness when it comes to water. This is something that I have just heard people around me talk about. That and dream shit means you are gonna get rich. Yes, I always rush out to by a lottery ticket if I have inpleasant dreams but never win anything:-(.
So how about we have a tarot reading book club next time you are in town;-). We miss you!

Make sure to get the latest firmware. My 558 is working fine with 1.1.7,.
Piece of shite
It is the DP600 and has the latest firmware but for some reason it sometimes just displays green. And don't get me started on how long it takes to start it up and eject a cd.... or all the times it decides to just hang up... Ouff! Nice concept but this one is just badly tested.
I once believed in people living in rocks...
Eirik,
I am not sure if some of these things make me feel better... I would happily skip the bad feeling I get everytime I dream water. No, I am thinking that these things are harmless and just enrich my life (in some odd way). Like religion is for some people. It gives them meaning and makes them focus on being good people. Sounds nice and harmless doesn't? But what about when they start killing people in the name of relgion or excluding people because they are for example gay?
I could get a bit carried away and start reading about "the end of the world" in my tarot cards and start convincing people around me that they need to move into a underground cave. I could start excusing all my bad actions by saying that it was predicted in my coffee cup and that I couldn't fight against it, or worse I could start killing all the black cats around me to save us from bad things.
I think all of these small things could be taken to the extreme in one form or another. I can picture a demented me ripping out all my eyelashes to make as many wishes as possible:-).
So wouldn't it be smarter to drop them instead of risking getting carried away later in life? They have no connection to reality anyway.
Daniel,
Iceland is very special when it comes to superstition. I remember very many things that I believed when I was a kid that are just silly now. Such as "people" living in rocks and mountains, ghosts, elves etc. There are very many places that are left untouched as they are cursed or the grave of a fortune teller. Many stories about people digging in these places and bad things happening. Many eccentric people that have mapped where elves live around them and other odd things.
We took Christianity after a guy was sent under a fur to think for a day or so. He came from under the fur (after probably a nice nap) and announced that we were becoming Christian. This was around year 1000. It seems like it was a relatively smooth process even though some pagan traditions were maintained.
I did not know that we had a 8 year immigration process. Might explain why there are so few immigrant. I always thought it was because nobody wanted to live on that windy rock in the ocean:-). Thanks for pointing these things out to me. I am gonna go and get my big book about Iceland now and read up on things a little bit. About time!:-)
Well, for the same reason I t
Well, for the same reason I think religion _can be_ very positive for people, I think that you should not be embarassed.. The whole point is that it makes you feel better, and that you would be more stressed if you didn't do all these superstitious things :)

Hmm...
From what little I know of Scandinavia, I think it's a question of history. It was one of the last regions of Europe to convert to Christianity in medieval times, and the conversion was a relatively smooth process with a notable absence of people burned at the stake for being pagans.
Iceland is portrayed in the media as geysers, geothermal power, an 8-year immigration process, vikings, Bjork and paganism.
