Yet Another Stupidity

Lets keep destroying the planet because that means Jesus will return quicker...We here in Scandinavia would sometimes like to believe we are a lot smarter than for example the people I mentioned in my previous blog post. Unfortunately, we have our fair share of stupid people like the Danish bishop Steen Skovsgaard who states that "Climate changes in the last few years are a sign of Jesus' return".

He states that the enormous climate changes, hurricanes, tsunamis, melting of the Antarctic, and the war between religions can indicate that we find ourselves at the end of our times and that doomsday is approaching. As a Christian he claims it would be wrong to deny those signs of Jesus' return.

No mention that these climate changes could be caused by us humans or that we might want to do something to try to stop them. It borders on being an encouragments to destroy the planet. You would hope that his fellow Christians would express disapproval, but I actually found this through a blog of a Norwegian priest Torp who simply says "Come Jesus" (thanks Tiram for pointing out his blog).

Skovsgaard might be right about one thing though. Doomsday is probably near if we don't smarten up!

Lay back and enjoy the ride!

What if God changed its mind over the last couple of thousand years, so in case the doomsday is caused by humans (and we know it), we won't be saved by Jesus or anyone else for that matter?

Another take is that those priests are fed up with life on this planet, if they start to hope for doomsday. Like we've put the snowball into motion, and now it is too late to stop it, so just lay back and enjoy the ride. The hand of God will save us in the last minute anyway, at least those who believe.

Too bad the Bible doesn't (?) say anything about what humans must achieve before we're awarded with eternity. If so, those prophets would observe that we're not just yet ready for the last day. Fortunately, most other Christians and people of other religions tend to be environment aware so they don't preach the same message.

First step is admitting

I am just so stunned that they don't try to put some kind of postitive religious spin on this. "We are destroying the planet so Jesus will return sooner than expected, lets this happen in the way it should. Lets be gentle to the planet". Why do they want doomsday to come? I am honestly not sure how you can connect this up with the return of Jesus and at the same time make people environmentally aware but I am sure there are creative people there.

Yes, thankfully not everyone thinks like this. Then again, it is not like I am some saint when it comes to nature. I have a lot to learn but the first step is admitting... then I maybe will eventually get better.

I am an Icelandic mediumgeek who lives in Oslo, Norway. I work at Opera Software making user interfaces for mobile browsers. I like reading and traveling most of all but there are many other things I like sticking my nose into. I have secret liking for getting upset about religious and political matters. Those are topics you are likely to find some entries about on my blog in between other things that happen to interest me then and there. Please note that the opinions here are my own and have nothing to do with my employer, family, or friends.
