What to browse on a deserted island?
If you were going to a deserted island...Do you remember that good old question? If you were going to a deserted island, what one item would you take with you? Let me rephrase that one and ask: If you were going to a deserted island, what one web site would you want to be able to browse? There is truly no doubt in my mind! Wikipedia. It is the only web site I truly missed during my vacation and it is just an endless source of information. Just had to shout to the world my love for this wonderful web site. Or have I maybe just watched too much Lost lately:).
So which one web site would you want to be able to browse on a deserted island?

very memory, song, album and
very memory, song, album and artist is cross-referenced so you can easily jump from the current number 1, to a user's top 10 memories, to an album track list, to the artist's back kitchen cupboards catalogue and back to the number 1 song. The Top 10 Desert Island Lists is made up from all of the users' individual memories, so as one song gains more top memories laminate countertops than another it will move up the chart, giving us an insight to the most memorable songs of all time.If you wish to join us on this island of music, films and memories simply concrete countertops register for FREE and start to build your own top 10 right now. My own website!
Another suggestion is to bring your own website. No, it is not out of pure egocentric aspect. In my case, it is three years ago since I planned to (re)build it. Maybe if I was stranded at a deserted island long enough, I would find time and motivation to get the site working and looking like I want.
Ok, for those who have MySpace pages and all of that, they could bring that site and hang with all their buddies, given that the webpage would magically stay updated, but that you couldn't browse any other site.
Me, the pessimist
Never quite gotten the whole MySpace thing but yes I guess that would be a good way if you want communication with other people.
The own web site idea is a much better idea:-). Imagine that wonderful layout you could make and all the blogs you had time to post... except when you are stuck on a desert island you might not have that much to blog about: "the coconut I ate today was quite creamy, I had to fight a monkey for it but I won with only one bruise after he hit me with the coconut"
And I am not sure how far you would get with improving your website, I at least tend to spend most of my time on google trying to workaround browser bugs and API weirdness when I try to do something... but now I am just being negative:-)
No google would be the smartest
Actually Google would be the smartest site to pick even though you can only stay within the boundaries of that one site. They do indeed cache pretty much everything:-).
I would miss news if I was on a deserted island but it wouldn't really matter that much if the news was old or not. Hence wikipedia would probably suit my news need pretty well since topics tend to get updated with the most relevant news. Would just need to look at a list of the last updated wiki pages (if that exists).
I would miss Amazon a lot though:(. My I can spend hours there reading and dreaming about which books I want to buy and read.
Yes Wikipedia. Otherwise I
Yes Wikipedia. Otherwise I might chose reefcentral for my nerdy reefkeeping info needs :)
I'm with you on Wikipedia
if it truly is one site only. Otherwise, "Google" would of course be the trick answer. Or, if Wikipedia is already taken and Google doesn't count, I'd probably either want to play Babble or browse m-w.com. Yes, I'm a word nerd.
BBC it would have to be
Mine would have to be http://www.bbc.co.uk/
I could read/listen to the news (general or specialized such as technology, science/nature, business, health, entertainment plus localised news), tune into music radio stations or listen to my local football team playing live not to mention a growing archive of tv programmes available to watch free. A constant changing site to keep your mind sane! (possibly)
