It is summer and there seems to be love in the air. Well, at least in the movie theatres. I have seen two movies lately which are really just chick flicks in disguise. Much nicer that way because pure chick flicks sometimes tend to be too much of the good thing.

First I saw Shrek 2 which is nothing less than brilliant. I am rating it as Excellent. It is a hilarious movie with wonderful characters. The storyline is a beautiful love story mixed with comedy. I really like the message the movie is trying to give. That looks don't matter if people really love each other. It is a nice story that gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling (and tears in your eyes because you laugh so much).

The second movie I saw was Spider-Man 2. That movie isn't nearly as good as Shrek 2 but it was really good Entertainment. It had nice effects and a cute story line. The characters however lacked depth and characteristics if you compare it to Shrek 2.

Both the movie and the love story were nice. Two people struggling against love because they believe they cannot be together. Yes, being with Spider-Man wouldn't be easy. Lots of waiting with dinner but for goodness sake just get a microwave:-). Ok, so it is not that simple but I don't see the point of struggling that much against obvious love.

Spider-Man's reason for not allowing himself the relationship with Mary Jane is that she would always be in danger. This was what annoyed me the most about the movie... she seemed to be in danger anyway!!!

The interesting thing about these movies is that they are both sequels. Most sequels are failures but both these movies are unique in the way that they are at least as good as the first movie. The Spider-Man 2 was in my opinion much better than the first.

Conclusion: You must see Shrek 2. If you have some time to waste then Spider-Man 2 is not a bad way to waste it.
