Was It My Last One?
Since Eirik was discussing movie freaks in his last blog entry, I will dedicate this blog to my last movie experience, which might change my eating habits forever.
To first comment on Eirik's blog. I don't consider myself a movie freak. I don't watch a lot of movies and I usually prefer fewer but more carefully selected movies. There are also too many famous movies that I have never seen to be able to term myself as a movie freak.
What bothers me a bit about Eirik's movie freak blog entry is that I think "movie freak" is not the appropriate name. I think you can be a truly sophisticated movie freak. Hence you shouldn't be called a freak but rather a movie enthusiastic. Somebody that enjoys a wide range of movies, enjoys the script, acting, directing, use of light and music, etc. Somebody that is willing to experiment with different types of movies and not just every Hollywood movie that comes along... (those might deserve the name freak:-)).
I tend to like movies that are a bit smart or get you thinking. But lets be clear here, I hate movies that are trying too hard to be smart. They usually end up coming across as stupid. Eg. The Matrix Reloaded. Then it is better to not try at all. So, I guess subtle smart is what I am looking for.
I also appreciate some unique experience while watching the movies. Like Indian Bollywood movie night, or my latest movie adventure which involved eating at McDonald and then watching Super Size Me. Simplistic enough but gave some extra effect to the movie.
Super Size Me is a documentary by Morgan Spurlock which undertook an experiment of eating only at McDonald for 30 day, 3 times a day, and only super sizing his meal when offered to do so. His goal was to check out how dangerous fast food is. The results were frightening!
The documentary was very good, filled with fact, and funny. Much better than the Michael Moore documentaries that tend to be trying too hard. I am definitely turning my thumb in an upright position for this movie. See it!
It was frightening to see that the US city I lived in for three and half year, Tulsa, is the 11th fattest city in the US. I must admit that I myself ate a lot of fast food while living there and gained quite few pounds. What the movie is portraying is true. Americans eat a lot of fast food (easy, cheap), and never walk anywhere. There are fast food restaurants everywhere, and the portions are gigantic.
While sitting and watching the movie, the normal McDonald McStomachAche and McBloating started kicking in. That was around the time when they started showing the medical evidence that the guy was about to destroy his body. Must admit that I felt a bit uneasy, and I am not sure if I will ever eat there again...

supersize me
McDonalds has introduced a new "healthier" menu, after the outcome of this movie. If more people have reacted like you do, after seeing this film, no wonder they think they need to take some action. I don't think I need to see this movie, although it might be fun, I don't like McDonalds that much because the bread tastes like paper! Had to comment on that one, HeiðdÃs.
Healthier menu
I must admit that I think a healthier menu is a waste of effort. I will never go to McDonal to have a salad. I used to like the burgers (believe it or not). If I am not going there to eat the burgers, I am not going there... well at least not until the effect of the movie wear off:-). Unfortunately people might be fooled by the salad. Oh, the place sells salad, can't be that bad, and then go there and have burger. Sad!
